At the moment i wouldn't know when to filter, to date i don't see a reason to filter, but in the future i'm sure the need will arise.

          Filtering

As many have posted already, filtering really adds a very nice sparkle to the wine and a polish that will make them stand out from the rest. Many have issues with filtering saying that it strips colour and flavor blah blah blah. Unless you are using a reverse osmosis machine you physically can not do that. The ones that say that have way too much faith in the iconoclastic rubbish Robert Parker pushes. I like to drink my wine and not chew it.

I want a minijet. My first kit was Burgundy I bottled in May 05. There is a whisp of sediment in every bottle. It would make a difference to get rid of this.

                  Mini-Jet

I use the Mini-Jet. The filter pads are expensive and parts hard to get, but it usually does a good job, if the instructions are followed closely.

Sometimes I wonder why I even filter at all.

                        comparison...

Would you 2 fellers say the Superjet is a better filter/pump for your needs? Is it simpler or more complicated than the Mini-Jet? Are the filter pads more expensive? Can you sanitize and reuse the filter pads like some commercial types? Are parts hard to find and very expensive?

For me, the superjet actually is better.......but only because of volume. I've used the pump only to move 45 gals to a blending bin, and then filtered the whole lot with one set of pads. I think it's easy as pie to use. The filter pads run about $5 a set and they cannot be reused. Not sure about finding parts, 'cause I haven't had the need to look yet.

                            Hippie,

I have never used a Mini-Jet, got the Super for $ 10.00 more and it's one of those guy things, more power. We filter 15 to 50 gal at a time and it works well.

Mini Jet here. I like it. Pretty easy to use but kinda tough to clean up. Have to really keep an eye on the drip chamber as well.
