sloes and green elderberries are they worth picking/using. have heard green elderberries make very good wine, but fighting with birds to collect ripe ones. only found one tree. Local hedge is full of sloes is it worth collecting them. also an abundance of wild apple trees but limited freezer space.( just bought a secondhand one and its full)

green Elderberries?
there is a variety that is white, but green=unripe (taste one) are there other elderberries that are ripe (ie stalks very very very red and berries very black)N.G.W.B.J.

think its what they call white, but they are green go translucent when ripe.

any chance you could bring some cuttings at the weekend please? (they are quite rare)
i have tons of wasteland behind my house, i woould love to plant white elderberries out there

yep was a great weekend ,found pear tree, 16 apple trees, blackcurrent bush, countless elderberries (normal), white elderberry tree, sloes, brambles nearly finished. all within 1/2 mile of house

Sloes should be around the size of a thumbnail...they should be purple/blue, and when you rub your finger over then removing the bloom on the fruit they wuill be more blue....
if you dont know what you are picking, then DO NOT use or eat them, some foraged fruit is deadly poisonous........
